5 simple steps to Weightloss!

Five simple steps to weight loss:

Over the past 25 plus years in my practise I have been asked all kinds of questions about health, and  one of the most persistent questions I get from patients is  - how do I lose weight?

In this world of trendy dieting programs, broken promises, expensive meal plans, all of which in many cases have lead the patients right back to where they started only regain the pounds they lost! You can imagine the frustration some people must feel, so if this sounds like you the good news is, you are not alone.

What I have found is that the most successful way to lose the weight and keep it off is from the significant lifestyle changes that came as a result of proper education about diet, exercise and stress!

What I have done here is to put together a short summary of the education I mentioned earlier. This can be found in my new book “The Doctor Of The Future Is Here” and will also be included in my new series of online self-evaluation and healing courses. So here are keys 5 steps to losing weight, and keep it off:

1.       Portion control: is so important in weight management. As a nation we are continually being bombarded by corporate interest and subsequent media campaigns designed to manipulate our behavior to over consume. We have been brainwashed in our understanding of a proper portion of food. More is better and the more we consume the greater the demand. The greater the demand the greater the supply the greater the supply the more the profit for the corporate machine. Once you realize that for a woman 1500 calories per day is considered healthy, and approximately 2000 calories per day for a healthy male. These numbers can be adjusted depending on how much exercise you are doing. But it is a good baseline which emphasises the fact that we here in North America just plain eat too much!

2.       Type of food consumed: Food choice is of critical importance. In order to maintain an optimal caloric diet we all need to make the correct food choices. For example; eating foods high in refined carbohydrates and sugars can exceed your daily caloric intake in just one meal, which can leave you unsatisfied with roller coaster cravings. However, making the correct choices of foods including whole meats, fruits, and vegetables can allow you to eat 3 satisfying meals a day and still maintain the proper caloric intake.

3.       The impact of stress:  has been proven to trigger significant changes in our metabolic system. This includes fluctuations in adrenal, thyroid and blood sugar regulating hormones. These changes have been suggested to increase the risk of central obesity, diabetes, and thyroid disease. All of which can affect weight management. Stress reduction is something everyone should be aware and learning how to control.

4.       Detoxification and exercise: can allow you to have greater control over your weight. Eating foods that are free of chemicals, additives and toxins (heavy metals) will allow your metabolic system to function optimally. Low toxic load can improve liver function. Optimal liver function is crucial in maintaining a healthy metabolic rate ensuring ideal weight and body composition. Exercise is strongly linked to detoxification. Regular exercise not only burns calories and stimulates metabolism, it also improves lymphatic drainage and detoxifies the body. I recommend 30 to 40 minutes of regular exercise 4-5 times a week.

5.       Age Management and metabolic hormones: These hormones can significantly affect our metabolic system and ultimately our weight. If you are over 40 years of age and are struggling with weight management issues I would strongly recommend an age wellness evaluation (blood or urine test) available through most Naturopathic Doctors. Many of these hormones can be naturally optimised through diet and supplementation. This can help to ensure a strong healthy metabolic system as we age.

Remember educate, evaluate, and empower yourself!

In my book The Doctor Of The Future Is Here, I describe all the tools I have created to help Doctors educate their patients.

These were designed to help patients make a connection with some of the influences and market forces that affect our daily lives and our health.

For example, I was looking for a way to describe how our culture and the health care system of today evolved out of the Industrial Revolution. I created the 3 Ps, which is my shorthand for profits, products, and people.

The important thing here is that my concept of the 3 Ps became a way for me to understand corporate decision-making, and to see that in real life there are no fairy-tale kings, dragons, or villagers.

The 3 Ps simply represent a way of doing business. It's not all good and it's not all bad. Like most things in life, it's both, and each of us has to learn to understand it well enough to make it work for us in our own lives.

Whenever I'm tempted to blame corporations for the health issues I see in my patients every day, the 3 Ps remind me that corporations are not to blame. They're doing what they're supposed to do, which is make a profit. That's what they're accountable to their shareholders for doing. They're not responsible for our health. WE ARE! Each of us, as individuals. It's our job to recognize the risk factors for illness and work proactively to prevent it, not wait until we're sick and then take reactive measures.

About The Lost Wisdom Newsletter

As most of us have noticed over these last few decades modern science and technology have been advancing exponentially. Even in my short time here we have come from getting up off the sofa to turn a knob in order to change the channels on the TV. To lying on the sofa using a smart phone to operate and surf all 500 hundred channels! I believe in many ways people just take it for granted that new science is automatically the best science!

There is no doubt about the numerous benefits of newly discovered science and technology, however, we need to respect and understand the past and the science behind what we once thought of as just a simple life style and simple health practices! Practices our parents, grandparents and great grandparents used even though they didn't fully understand the science behind the benefits. They just knew these practices were beneficial, they just did not know the how and why. But now we know that our intuition was correct all along, and we have the science to prove it!

At that time experience and observation, empirical evidence, was the key factor in these older practices. Many of which were passed down from generation to generation with absolute conviction and trust. Remember these practices would have been stopped if their safety and effectiveness were in doubt. It was clearly defined over the years with no bias.

Unfortunately, as the generations passed these pearls of wisdom were forgotten, discredited and eventually lost. These pearls of wisdom are what refer to as lost wisdom!

Learn more about true preventative healthcare here each week, as I plan to get into other examples where it can be applied, as well as other relevant topics.
